Diabetes and Eye Health
Did you know that approximately 29 million Americans age 20 and older have diabetes? One third of those are at risk for vision loss because they do not even know that they have the disease.
Diabetics are 60 percent more likely to develop cataracts and 40 percent more likely to develop glaucoma than people without diabetes. Diabetics are also at risk for diabetic retinopathy, which can result in permanent vision loss if left untreated. Every year 12,000 to 24,000 people lose their sight due to diabetes. |
